Logistics

Ankara has strategic importance as it is located in the middle of the Central Anatolia Region, providing a basis for transport in the north-south direction and allowing distribution to be carried out easily to all parts of Turkey. In parallel with its industrial and commercial volume, it has a highly developed logistics infrastructure. Thanks to this infrastructure, warehousing, and transportation network, it serves as the hub where the material movements of both the city and all other cities transferring from this region are managed.

Ankara Logistics Base

The idea of meeting many elements such as transportation, storage, distribution, handling, customs clearance, weighing, insurance, consultancy, banking, social facilities, etc., in the same area is the basis of the logistics base concept. The importance of logistics bases, equivalents of which are found in various countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, has been well understood in these countries.

Ankara Logistics Base, the first logistics base in Turkey, holds a critical position on the east-west and north-south axes. It is currently observed that it has begun to become a center for transit trade between Europe and Asia due to its safe, rapid, economical, and systematic services.

Ankara Logistics Base

Ankara Logistics Base was established in May 2004 by 45 international transport companies, most of which are based in Ankara. It is Turkey's first International Transport Base. It is a rentable project open to all international and domestic logistics, customs brokerage, import, and export companies, as well as associated public institutions and organizations, and packaging and distribution sectors.

Construction area: 389,000 m2 (198,000 m2 closed, 191,000 m2 open)

Number of vehicles: 1,100 – 1,200 vehicles/day (This number is projected to increase by approximately 30%.)

Warehouses: There are rentable warehouses and bonded warehouses with a total area of 60,000 m2 across 5 blocks.

Each warehouse unit has docking capabilities for 2 transport vehicles (trucks), airtight bellows-type sectional doors, and level-adjusting ramps.

Commercial Areas and Offices: In addition to 110 modular office units rentable to international logistics companies, import-export institutions, and organizations related to packaging and distribution sectors, there are commercial areas (such as banks, markets, insurance, cargo, restaurants, cafeterias).

Customs Administration: Planned on a 6,000 m2 area, with a structure containing technical infrastructure and necessary administrative units (Truck Customs Directorate, Guard Directorate, Central Laboratory) to respond to all needs of our foreign trade-related companies from start to finish. Access to bonded warehouses and controlled passage are also located within the Customs Administration.

Domestic Logistics Companies: This facility includes a closed area of approximately 19,000 m2, containing 270 office spaces, 12 commercial areas, 2 restaurants, 2 cafeterias, a market, a kiosk, and amenities such as showers/WCs, laundry, and a tailor for transport vehicle drivers. 

Transportation

Roadwise: The province of Ankara has a modern road network to handle the motorized vehicle traffic flowing to and from the capital. The O-20 ring road surrounding the capital ensures that transit traffic bypasses without disrupting city traffic. The O-20 connects to other motorways, linking the capital to other cities in the country.

Airwise: Located north of the provincial center, Esenboğa International Airport is the most important point of entry and exit by air. From Esenboğa, it is possible to fly to almost every province in Turkey, as well as to various cities in Europe, America, and the Far East.

Ankara is the second largest hub in terms of air traffic after Istanbul. Approximately 9-10% of Turkey's total air traffic and the sum of domestic and international passenger traffic takes place through Ankara Esenboğa Airport. There are direct flights from Ankara to 36 destinations within Turkey, and to 28 different destinations across 17 countries outside Turkey.

Railway: There are two railway lines passing through the province of Ankara. The first of these connects the city of Ankara to Eskişehir in the west and Kayseri in the east. A second line connects to Karabük and Zonguldak. The most important point of entry and exit by rail is the TCDD Ankara Station. This is also the point where the east and west of the country split. The Ankara - Eskişehir section of the High-Speed Train Project, which connects Ankara to Istanbul via Eskişehir, was opened to service in 2009. Following this, the Ankara-Konya High-Speed Train Project was opened on August 24, 2011, and the Ankara-Istanbul High-Speed Train Project was opened on July 25, 2014.
