Transportation and Logistics

Seaway: It is Turkey's third-largest province in foreign trade by sea. Based on the number of containers nationwide, 18.5% of foreign trade by sea was carried out through İzmir and Aliağa Ports.

Highway: With a highway length of 247 km, İzmir is the second-largest province with the most extensive highway network length in Turkey.

Airway: İzmir is the largest hub in terms of air traffic after İstanbul and Ankara. 10% of Turkey's total air traffic and the sum of domestic and international passenger traffic takes place at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. There are direct flights from İzmir to 22 destinations in Turkey, and to 86 different destinations in 36 countries outside of Turkey.

Railway: Having a railway length of 372 km, İzmir is among the leading provinces of Turkey in railway transportation with an average cargo capacity of 2 million tons carried by rail.

İzmir is the 7th largest region in Turkey in terms of the number of local units working in transportation and storage, which is one of the main logistical activities, with 18,958 units; and the 3rd largest region in Turkey in terms of the number of employees in this field, with 63,319 employees.

With its import and export volume, and a 9.3% share in Turkey's industrial production, İzmir is one of the cities with the highest storage supply in Turkey. Industrial warehouses are generally located in Kemalpaşa, Menderes, and Torbalı regions.
